What can you use the app for?

Whimventory lets users create a wish list of items from their favorite online retailers. Users can install the Whimventory bookmarklet for quick access when browsing online shops. The user can add items while they explore and go back later to sort, filter or edit the items they added to their Whimventory. Lists can also be shared with others or kept private. If a friend or family member purchases an item for the user from their Whimventory list, they can anonymously mark the item as purchased to help avoid duplicate gifts during special occasions. The user can also generate a print a hard copy of their Whimventory list to share with anyone who doesn’t have internet access (or to keep with them when they go shopping offline). The lists are downloaded in a CSV format for easy access. The user’s Whimentory list includes their image, name, contact details and links to their other lists with a grid that presents each item with a thumbnail image, name, price and the date it was added.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Whimventory was introduced in 2010 as a way of making online shopping and gift buying easier for the average internet user. Whimentory users can create their own personalized list of items they really want that are sold by their favorite online retailers. The lists can be made for fun or used as a gift list during holidays, birthdays or other special occasions. Whimventory is currently in beta.

What are the differences to other apps?

Whimventory makes it much easier for users to share the items they want with others. The user can add items to their lists with the click of a button. Those who install the bookmarklet can add items without navigating away from the online store they are browsing. This process makes it much easier for the user to compile a complete wish list and share it with others.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Whimventory list pages are very neat and clean. The grid design uses three columns that help keep the items manageable and user friendly. Each rectangle shaped box contains a thumbnail image of the product as well as the product name, price, date it was added, icon for the store selling it and two icons that allow the user to view the product page or confirm that they purchased the item for the user.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can create a Whimventory account by clicking the white and orange “Sign Up” button found along the left hand side of the homepage. A pop up box will appear with a blue “Connect” button at the top, center for those who prefer to sign up with an existing Facebook account. Users who do not have Facebook or do not wish to link accounts can fill out the form just below the button, which asks for a username, password and email address. The user must also check the Whimventory terms of service agreement box before submitting the form.

What does it cost to use the application?

Whimventory offers a fun, easy way to create wish lists and help others find fitting gifts. The application has uses, however it remains relatively simple. Charging a fee for the service would require the addition of more features and options. For now, Whimventory is priced right where it should be: free. Users can create accounts and build multiple wish lists at no cost.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Whimventory is a great resource for anyone who shops online frequently. Users can build their own customized wish lists that can be kept private or shared with others to make gift buying even easier.
